A Brief Lesson in Negotiating while Travelling

Not everything is up for negotiation.

There’s a time and place for haggling but remember that what is a fun game for you is actual life for the locals. Yes the first price offered on that rug in the Turkish market is way to high and no-one expects you to pay it.

Do sit down with a cup of tea and see what you can agree on.  But when a bed in the locally run hostel in Vietnam is only $8, don’t be a jerk and refuse to pay any more than $6. Just give them the two dollars, asshole and be glad you have somewhere to sleep tonight!
